International rail travellers either love the SNCF jingle or hate it. Our policy director Ian Brown really quite likes it if not always what follows it!
The synthesised mixture of several female voices was composed by Michaël Boumendil, and is used in France before announcements of train departures, arrivals or delays.
Pink Floyd guitarist and vocalist David Gilmour must quite like it too, because it inspired his latest single 'Rattle that Lock'. He told Le Parisien: “I recorded it on my smart phone at the TGV Aix station where I had spent time with my family on holiday. Every time I travel in France by train, which happens quite often on holiday or with my profession, when I hear that little music ‘papalala’ in the Gare du Nord or Gare de Lyon, it makes me want to sing and dance.”
The single was released on 18th July, reaching number 91 in the UK charts on that day. The album of the same name will be released on 18th September.
