Railfuture's 2019 Summer Conference at the Dolphin Centre, Darlington, on Saturday 22nd June has five speakers.
Alan Williams is Chairman of the Esk Valley Railway Community Rail Partnership and a Vice President of Railfuture.
He is a journalist and writer, probably best known for his sometimes acerbic monthly political column in Modern Railways magazine.
He has worked as a transport specialist at the BBC and as communications advisor at both the Treasury and the Department for Trade and Industry, and during a secondment to 10 Downing Street.
Prior to privatisation he was an Executive Board Member of The Post Office Corporation and a Member of the British Railways Board Design Panel from 1983 to 1994.
He is an Associate of the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers.
And for recreation he has a passenger carrying miniature railway running around his farmhouse in North Yorkshire...
With a career in the UK ports industry spanning almost thirty years, Matthew Hunt has now held senior management positions at the north east Ports of Seaham, Tyne and for the last nine years at the Port of Sunderland, as Port Director. This period has been one of significant change and opportunity for the industry and this has reflected in developments at each, as declining traditional core trades have been replaced with those from emerging markets.
Matthew is passionate about rail and specifically the development of rail freight opportunities. Throughput his career he has demonstrated the delivery of significant rail freight projects working alongside partners such as the Rail Freight Operating Companies and Network Rail and there are now clear opportunities for the Port of Sunderland to establish a presence as a multi-modal operator here in the north east.
