Railfuture's mission is to be the number one advocate for rail users and the rail industry. We seek to engage at both national and local levels to raise public awareness of the opportunities to improve rail services.

Railfuture Branches

Our branches are the heart of the Railfuture organisation; our members meet locally to identify local issues and campaign for initiatives which will meet local needs and improve the attraction of rail travel. Railfuture has 12 branches in England, plus branches in Wales and Scotland - there will be one near you.

At the Railfuture 2015 autumn conference Railfuture Honorary President presented Allisn Cosgrove, chair of Railfuture Scotland, with a special award for the successful campaign to reopen the first part of the Borders Railway

Rail User Groups

There are over 300 Rail User Groups nationally, which campaign for improvements in their own rail services and stations. Many are affiliated to Railfuture. News of rail user group activity is published monthly in Rail User Express, and Railfuture runs an annual RUG Awards ceremony.

In 2012 the Best Campaign Award is shown above being presented by our President Christian Wolmar to the Cotswold Line Promotion Group.
In 2013 the Judges' Special Award went to Peter Wakefield, Chair of our East Anglia branch.
In 2014 the Gold Award for Best Newsletter went to the Huddersfield, Penistone and Sheffield Rail Users Association.
In 2015 the Judges' Special Award went to Railfuture Scotland, in recognition of all who contributed to the campaign to re-open the Borders Railway.
In 2016 Gold Awards for Best Website were awarded to two groups: Copeland Rail Users' Group and Friends of Rose Hill station, Marple.

Railfuture campaigns nationally and locally for a rail system which will provide better, value for money rail services for both passengers and freight, over a bigger rail network. We support initiatives which will increase rail travel: sufficient capacity, efficient customer service, simpler fares, improved connectivity, faster schedules, network enhancements and improved competitiveness with other modes of transport. If you share these ideals please contact us.
