German Railways are offering a £21 special fare from Frankfurt am Main or Stuttgart to Paris to celebrate the dawning of a new high-speed rail age in Europe.

The journey will take about four hours at speeds of around 200mph once the service starts on 10 June. Early bird tickets went on sale in April.

German ICE trains will operate from Mannheim, Kaiserslautern, Saarbrücken and Frankfurt am Main. The French TGV trains will operate from Paris to Stuttgart via the new high-speed line to Strasbourg.

The opening offer, the Paris Special, for journeys from Frankfurt, Mannheim or Stuttgart costs £21, including a seat reservation.

Travel from Karlsruhe, Saarbrücken and Kaiserslautern to Paris, costs just £14. The offer is available on www.bahn.co.uk £3.60 will be added to the cost for bookings over the phone with the Deutsche Bahn UK Booking Centre or at the counter in Germany.

This offer will be valid in 2nd class, for travel from Germany to Paris between 10 June and 31 August, and is subject to availability.

"The ICE is bringing Europe together. With us, customers will travel at speed and in comfort from inner city to inner city", said Dr Nikolaus Breuel of DB. "With this new connection, we are declaring our intention to expand in Europe."

First class includes a light meal at your seat on international journeys.

When timetables change on 9 December, the connection will become faster still. The ICE will then reach Paris from Frankfurt in three hours and 50 minutes.
