Groups from both sides of Woodhead tunnel – which 30 years ago saw electric trains speeding through between Manchester and Sheffield – are going to meet up at Dunford Bridge on Saturday 16 July 2011 to promote the case for the line’s reopening.

If you want to support the campaign but do not want to walk all the way, you can get the train from Huddersfield or Barnsley and join other campaigners at Penistone at 12.45.

The Reopen Woodhead campaign is also staging a wreath-laying at Manchester Piccadilly to mark the 30th anniversary of closure.

The campaigners say: "In making our way to the route's mid-point we are demonstrating the extreme lengths people go to for the sake of 16 miles of missing track.

There will also be a specially brewed real ale, 'Tunnel Vision' a mid brown 4% strength session beer which has been produced by Pete Roberts, micro-brewer and landlord of the Harlequin Pub, Nursery Street, Sheffield.
