Another new rail station has opened this week to the delight of people living in Lancashire.

Buckshaw Parkway was built on the site of the former Royal Ordnance factory at Euxton.

The first train, from Blackpool North to Manchester Victoria, arrived at the station on Monday 3 October 2011.

The £6.8 million station, between Leyland and Chorley, is expected to attract 450,000 passengers a year.

Mark Perks of Lancashire County Council said: "One of the beauties about this station is it is quite near the motorway network and the town centre and will serve a brand new community."

The station, with 200 free car parking spaces, was a joint venture between Chorley Council, Lancashire County Council, Northern Rail and Network Rail.

There will be two services an hour in each direction during the day and one an hour in the evening. From 17 October there will be an extra stop each hour during the day and a second hourly stop in the evenings.

More than 350 stations and 300 kilometres of track have been reopened over the past 50 years.
