A mural is being unveiled at Portishead station in April 2012 as part of a campaign to get the Bristol-Portishead rail line reopened.

The event will be attended by a number of local and North Somerset District councillors and community leaders,  and the mural will be unveiled by Dr Liam Fox MP.

There will be a marquee for presentations and other entertainment for children.

The mural was commissioned by the Portishead Railway Group and has been designed and painted by local artist Aili Purdy with contributions from Crest Nicholson and Pure Offices.

It depicts Portishead past, present and future, the demise of the railway and the hope for the reopening, with contributions from local school children.

The Portishead Railway Group and Pure Offices, Kestrel Court, are organising the project and paying for much of it. But Crest and Persimmon who own the land where the mural will be erected, have been fully supportive and given their approval to use their land and paid for the licence and Carey's DIY & Garden have helped out with the supplies needed for the hoarding.
