A new station could be built on the Docklands Light Railway in East London if the Government agrees it will help to "support" housing development in the area.

Plans for the station at Langdon Park (pictured above) have been submitted to the Department for Transport which is expected to make a decision by the autumn.

The £7.5million station between All Saints and Devons Road is designed to improve access for local residents to Stratford and Canary Wharf and support new housing development on the eastern side of the railway.

Funding may be provided from the £200million Community Infrastructure Fund which was announced in July 2004.

The Thames Gateway project is supported by Tower Hamlets Council, Leaside Regeneration Ltd and local residents and is part of the Sustainable Communities initiative.

Docklands Light Railway Ltd is preparing an up-to-date and detailed business case for the DfT.

During the consultation process, three local meetings were held and 6,500 households received leaflets explaining the project.

Also selected for further appraisal is the Pontoon Dock Footbridge from the DLR station on the City Airport Extension to the London Development Agency development site at Silvertown, including direct access to the mayor’s Aquarium in the Silvertown Quays development.
