Britain’s newest train will be cycle-friendly, passengers were assured when a mock-up of the train went on show to the public for one day only (29 January 2014) at London’s ExCel centre.

There will be specially designed spaces on board Thameslink’s new Desiro City train for cycles off-peak, although during peak hours the cycle areas are expected to be crammed with standing passengers. A single 12-car train has the capacity to carry more than 1,000 passengers.

The spacious, airy, walk-through new trains with plenty of luggage space, will be built in Germany by Siemens, and are expected to enter service in 2016.

Rail travel is booming and each year more people are also refining their commute to work by riding bikes to the station.

So rail passengers are likely to be among those visiting the ExCel centre from Thursday 13 February to Sunday 16 February 2014 for the London Bike Show to check out the latest bikes on offer.

Visitors will be able to try out the newest bikes on the market on a 500 metre test track and also buy new clothing and accessories.

The London Bike Show will run alongside The Telegraph Outdoor Adventure & Travel Show, the Triathlon Plus Show and the London International Dive Show (Saturday & Sunday only).

A ticket to the show will allow visitors access to all four shows.

Bikes can now be taken on the Docklands Light Railway which serves the show at Custom House station. Bikes have been banned since the DLR opened but now the rules have been relaxed. Bicycles are permitted Monday to Friday except during peak hours (07.30-09.30 and 16.00-19.00) and all day at weekends and bank holidays. For safety reasons, bicycles are not allowed at Bank station.
