Progress can at last be reported on London's Thameslink 2000 rail expansion scheme which has been delayed so much that jokers are already calling it Thameslink 3000.

Network Rail submitted a new planning application to
Southwark Council - on 25 June 2004 - for a new station on he south end of Blackfriars station and replacement buildings around the widened viaduct in the Borough Market area.

To explain the modified scheme, Network Rail is holding as series of one-day exhibitions.

The exhibitions will report the findings of the new environmental statement in those areas most affected by the proposed work.

The new buildings would replace existing property on Stoney Street, Borough High Street and at Green Dragon Court. The old buildings would need to be demolished to make way for the viaduct needed to expand capacity for Thameslink 2000 services.

The exhibitions are being held at:

Blackfriars South on Tuesday 13 July. 12 noon-7pm on the Tate Modern forecourt, Holland St.
