Funnyman Steve Royle, above, stopped off at rail stations in South Yorkshire last week giving passengers a preview of his stand-up show at the Grin Up North comedy festival which runs throughout October.

Steve and Grin Up North promoter Toby Foster entertained passengers with a series of impromptu micro-gigs.

The pair began their journey at Sheffield station before taking the train to Doncaster for another performance at Frenchgate Interchange.

Then it was back on the train to Rotherham for gig number three at Rotherham Interchange, followed by a short bus ride to Barnsley interchange for the fourth free show.

After that, it was back on the bus to Sheffield for the final performance at Sheffield Interchange.

“We’re thrilled to have Steve and Toby on board,” said David Brown, director general at South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive which is supporting the festival.

“The festival is the biggest of its kind in the country, and we're proud to be supporting it here in South Yorkshire.

“Their comedy tour shows just how easy it is to get around the region by public transport – so we’re hoping that this will encourage people to travel to Grin Up North gigs by bus, tram or train. We’ve also provided travel tips on how to get to each venue on our website – travelsouthyorkshire.com/grin – so it couldn’t be easier. Log on and you’re laughing!”
