£10 bargain tickets to London are being offered by East Midlands Trains to celebrate the launch of its improved Sheffield services.

Following a series of successful Red Dot Days in the summer, East Midlands Trains will be holding its fifth Red Dot Day at Sheffield station on Wednesday 30 December.

This means that throughout the day, the company will be making thousands of £10 day return tickets available for travel from Sheffield to any destination on its network.

“We’ve recently made some great improvements to our train service between Sheffield and London with the introduction of half hourly services,” said David Horne, the company’s commercial director

“We decided this provided us with the perfect opportunity to give the people of Sheffield a late Christmas present with the chance to try out the new services for just £10!

“Many people want to give the train a try but are not sure how to go about it. We want to demonstrate how easy and enjoyable rail travel can be, so have been holding a series of ‘try the train’ days at our stations where people can literally come and give the train a try for a bargain price of just £10. The days have been a great success too, with 63% of passengers trying our trains for the very first time.

“On our Red Dot Day at Sheffield, we’ll have additional staff on hand to give out advice and help about timetables and tickets and we’ll also be giving out an assortment of goodies designed to entertain the kids.

“But the best bit is, we’ll be offering everybody the chance to travel from Sheffield to anywhere on our network for just £10, or £5 for kids.

“So, a typical family of two adults and two children could come down to the station on 30 December, pick up some goodies and advice from our helpful staff, and then travel all the way down to London for a bargain price of just £30. With the money saved on travelling to London, you could pick up some great bargains in the sales.”

There will be no limit to the number of Red Dot Day tickets issued on 30 December, and outward and return travel can be made on any train, any time, provided the journey is made on Wednesday 30 December 2009.

Tickets are available only from Sheffield station with a special voucher, which can be downloaded from the reddotday

To reserve a seat, booking in advance is strongly recommended. Passengers are advised to arrive at least 20 minutes before their planned train departure.
