It should be easier to find out about, and book, a ferry crossing and the journey to or from the port by train or bus.

This is an important conclusion of a report published by Railfuture, based on the experiences of members who made some 150 such journeys in the 12 months up to the end of September 2013.

Some good RAIL AND SAIL tickets exist, such as to Ireland and the Netherlands, but these need to be better promoted. In rail timetable books and in on line information, all connecting bus and train possibilities need to be shown, including bus shuttles between a rail station and parts of a nearby port.  

The report singles out Holyhead, Dublin Port, Belfast and Cairnryan, in particular, where such transfers are not as easy as they should be.
