A new station building was completed this week as part of a major project to build a new rail link from London to Oxford.

Oxford Parkway station, pictured above, will open to passengers in September when Chiltern Railways’ new service from London Marylebone will begin running via Bicester.

It will be competition for the existing London Paddington to Oxford rail link operated by First Great Western.

Chiltern’s project involves building a curve at Bicester and upgrading the Bicester-Oxford line in a £130 million project.

The new Oxford Parkway station is north of the city just off the A34, near Water Eaton park-and-ride.

Chiltern Railways said the new station will help people to escape the congestion of Oxford city centre.

Oxford Parkway will also have a car park with more than 800 spaces, and more than 100 cycle spaces.

The London Marylebone to Oxford Parkway service will take less than an hour. It will be extended to the existing Oxford station next year.

“Oxford Parkway will transform travel between Oxford and London when it launches in summer 2015,” said managing director Rob Brighouse.
