This photograph by Jim Wade of Corby, Northants was announced as the winner of the Railfuture photo competition at our autumn conference in London.

The first prize is a framed fine art print of the 'Shock and Ore' picture by the artist Mike Turner, a member of Railfuture and of the Guild of Railway Artists.
The competition was judged by a panel of Railfuture vice-presidents, who felt that this entry underscored the importance of freight to the railway and showed the comparison between generations of freight locomotive.  All the entries, depicting an aspect of rail development or rail reopening that is needed, is in progress or has recently occurred, can be viewed here.

Railfuture ran the competition to find some stunning photographs illustrating the future of rail.  These will be used to publish a set of postcards and greetings cards which can be offered for sale, sent to new members and used to encourage potential members to join. Both the first prize winner and the runners-up will have the satisfaction of knowing that their photographs will be helping to recruit new members to Railfuture.  In addition the Railfuture Finance Director has offered £50 for each photograph which we use for a postcard!
